With the opening of an exhibition of products created by residents of the Nikšić home for the elderly, we successfully concluded the »Navigating life with dementia« project in December 2025, in cooperation with our partner NGO Impuls from Montenegro.
The two-year project (2024–2025), »Navigating life with dementia«, was implemented in eight municipalities in northern Montenegro, a region considered underdeveloped. In addition, dementia in these areas remains a stigmatized and relatively little-known condition. The project addressed a vulnerable group of people aged 65 and over who are already living with dementia or showing signs of the disease.
We provided psychosocial support in the homes of the most vulnerable individuals, where institutional assistance is largely unavailable. In addition, two official licenses for the provision of counselling services were obtained, and two counselling centres were established.
To reduce stigma and raise public awareness, we carried out various promotional and awareness-raising activities. Among these was an e-manual published for public education purposes, which has also been included in the Slovenian national digital library. We also strengthened cooperation among local institutions, social work centres, and local communities.
At the conclusion of the project, Emina Hadžić, founder and director of the NGO Institute Circle, stated: »The »Navigating life with dementia« project is just one of the activities of our international humanitarian organization, which implements development projects in Africa, the Middle East, and the Western Balkans. The »Navigating life with dementia« project genuinely helped those in need, while also significantly increasing public awareness and encouraging political decision-makers to engage in providing support to people living with dementia and their families.«
The »Navigating life with dementia« project was funded with the support of the European Union, the Government of Montenegro, and the Ministry of Public Administration of the Republic of Slovenia.
