For well-being in Lebanon,
2026-2028
Environmental friendly produced food, health and protection from violence for well-being of women in Lebanon, 2026-2028
Lebanon is facing a severe economic, financial, and political crisis, which has been intensified over the past year by the armed conflict with Israel. According to IOM data, approximately 190,000 people remain displaced due to the conflict, around 30 % of them in Sidon and 20 % in Tyre, where the project will be implemented. They face acute food insecurity, lack access to kitchens and hot meals, many are reducing the number of daily meals and purchasing lower-quality food. Access to water is also limited.
The project »Environmental friendly produced food, health and protection from violence for well-being of women in Lebanon« is implemented by Zavod Krog in partnership with the Lebanese organization Naba’a – Developmental Action without Borders, which will lead most field activities and work closely with local communities. Numerous Slovenian and Lebanese expert partners are also involved, covering the fields of sustainable agriculture, nutrition, entrepreneurship, psychosocial support, sexual and reproductive health, and ensuring access to safe drinking water.
Through the project, which will be carried out in southern Lebanon (primarily in the cities of Sidon and Tyre), we aim to improve food security and health, protect and restore the dignity of internally displaced persons, refugees, and other vulnerable Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian families—especially women and their children—while simultaneously strengthening gender equality and social cohesion within communities.
The following key activities will be implemented within the project:
-
training women in sustainable gardening, nutrition, and the preparation of healthy and safe meals; rehabilitation of abandoned agricultural land and the introduction of sustainable practices (drip irrigation, rainwater harvesting, composting, etc.),
-
establishment and operation of a community kitchen in Sidon, providing regular, healthy, and diverse hot meals as well as food packages for the most vulnerable families,
-
training women in business, financial, and administrative management of the kitchen, entrepreneurship, marketing, and long-term operational sustainability,
-
establishment of systems to ensure access to clean drinking water,
-
providing psychosocial support (group and individual),
-
providing sexual and reproductive health services, including gynecological care and educational workshops for women and girls,
-
activities to prevent gender-based violence, raise awareness among women, men, and youth, and strengthen social cohesion in local communities.
