Covid-19: food distribution and psychosocial support to vulnerable families in Lebanon, 2020
Due to economic crisis during the spread of Covid-19, Institute Emma in partnership with Institute Circle distributed food parcels to more than 200 vulnerable Syrian refugee families in the south of Lebanon in partnership with Naba'a - Developmental Action without Borders, raised awareness on Covid-19 prevention through social media and short films, and provided one-to-one psychosocial support to the most vulnerable women, in the context of the economic crisis during the spread of Covid-19. The Covid-19 activities were carried out in the framework of the project "For Her Future - Raising Awareness against Child Marriage among Refugees in Lebanon".
In addition to these activities, training for 15 girls, 10 mothers and 5 fathers on gender-based violence and on children's and women's rights started again in June 2020. In the continuation of the project, the trainees raised awareness against child marriage and other gender-based violence in workshops conducted among 850 peer educators and 1400 parents. Raising awareness against child marriage and gender-based violence among refugees in Lebanon is the aim of a 3-year project through which Institute Emma and its partners have worked to reduce the number of child marriages in Lebanon and to provide psychological and medical rehabilitation to the victims.
In parallel to these activities, 300 local and religious leaders, judges, doctors were sensitised and 45 leaders were trained to carry out 4 local and 2 national campaigns against child marriage and for the legalisation of a minimum age for marriage. In addition, at least 1000 victims of marriage and gender-based violence have been provided with group and individual psychosocial support, with referrals to a psychotherapist for the most difficult cases. The project also had a gynaecologist who provided medical assistance and counselling to project beneficiaries, as well as workshops on reproductive health and family planning.
